NCR Voyix, one of the biggest point-of-sale providers to US convenience stores, has integrated TruAge's digital age verification into its checkout systems — following an announcement with the National Association for Convenience Stores (NACS). The integration targets age-restricted purchases, which includes nicotine pouches, tobacco, vape and alcohol.

The system lets retailers verify a customer's age, flag fraudulent or expired IDs and check purchase limits using a physical or digital driver's license — without adding steps for store staff.

How big is the rollout

Two numbers from the announcement: NACS says the platforms TruAge now plugs into serve roughly 75% of the US convenience retail market, and Cullinan Group, the certified integration partner, says it is already available to more than 20,000 NCR Voyix RPOS stores. The company's newer Voyix POS for CFR solution ships with native TruAge support.

Why it matters for nicotine pouches

Pouches are a young category, and many store staff have far less muscle memory checking them than they do for cigarettes. Digital verification replaces cashier judgment with a logged, auditable check: the ID scan, the timestamp and the result are on record if a state inspector comes asking.

It also tightens the net that age-restricted retail already sits in. Swedish Match started checking ID on every sale in its own Swedish stores on 1 October, and the UK brings in an 18+ age of sale for pouches on 29 October. US retail is moving the same direction — toward verification systems that keep a record rather than a nod.

What's next

Retailers on NCR Voyix RPOS can enable the integration through Cullinan Group; the CFR POS version has it built in. Expect more POS providers to add digital ID checks as pouch sales grow and states tighten enforcement.
