FDA lets ZYN claim it’s safer than cigarettes — doctors push back

The FDA issued Modified Risk Tobacco Product orders for 20 ZYN nicotine pouch products on 30 June 2026 — the first time any nicotine pouch has been cleared to advertise reduced disease risk versus cigarettes. The authorised claim covers mouth cancer, heart disease, lung cancer, stroke, emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Public health experts say the labelling could normalise nicotine for new users — and point to 460,000 youth pouch users as evidence the category is already reaching kids.

Four EU countries just froze Poland's plan to make all nicotine pouches taste like tobacco

Poland's draft law would restrict nicotine pouches to a tobacco-only flavour — effectively banning the mint, fruit, and berry profiles that most adult pouch users actually buy. Sweden, Romania, Slovakia, and Greece filed formal EU objections that extended Poland's regulatory standstill to 6 November 2026. Sweden's government calls it a de facto market ban that breaks single-market rules and could worsen public health.
