ZYN Dry Pouches Now Come in Four Strengths — and the Can Is About to Get Bigger

PMI U.S. is adding 1.5 mg and 8 mg options to the flagship ZYN dry lineup and moving 3 mg and 6 mg cans to 20 pouches in Q4 — the widest strength range the brand has shipped in the US.

PMI U.S. has quietly made ZYN's flagship dry pouch lineup the most stratified nicotine pouch shelf in America: the brand is adding 1.5 mg and 8 mg strengths alongside the existing 3 mg and 6 mg, and it will shift 3 mg and 6 mg cans to 20 pouches each in Q4 2026.

The announcement came in a September 9 release from PMI U.S., the American arm of Philip Morris International. CEO Stacey Kennedy framed it around choice: "We will continue to innovate to ensure we provide a portfolio of products that meet legal-age adults' diverse preferences so they can move away, and stay away, from combustible cigarettes."

What's actually new

Two things, and they're easy to miss because ZYN's louder 2026 launches — the ULTRA moist line and its FDA authorizations — have dominated coverage.

First, the dry pouch strength ladder. Until now it stopped at 3 mg on the low end and 6 mg on the high end. Adding 1.5 mg gives light users — or smokers making their first switch — a gentler entry point, while 8 mg extends the dry format toward the high-strength segment that ZYN ULTRA currently occupies at 9 and 11 mg. Trade press covering the rollout reports the dry lineup spans 13 flavor profiles across the four strengths.

Second, the can. In Q4, 3 mg and 6 mg dry pouches move from the current count to 20 pouches per can, a change PMI says consumer research supports. That's not cosmetic: convenience retailers will need to re-do planograms and reprice shelf slots before the transition lands, and buyers comparing price-per-pouch will see the math change.

Where ULTRA fits

The 1.5–8 mg dry range brackets ZYN ULTRA, the higher-moisture pouch format the FDA authorized in August 2026 with marketing granted orders for 11 products — ten 9 mg SKUs and one 11 mg. ULTRA absorbs faster than the dry format and launched with its own flavor names like Arctic Mint and Wintergreen Blast. Between the two lines, ZYN now covers 1.5 mg to 11 mg in the US.

Why it matters

ZYN is the only nicotine pouch with FDA marketing authorization (January 2025) and the only one with modified risk orders (20 products, June 2026), which permit PMI to tell consumers that switching from cigarettes lowers the risk of mouth cancer, heart disease, lung cancer, stroke, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis. Every strength and format PMI adds gets to ride on that regulatory head start, which no competitor in the US pouch market currently has.

Supply is not the constraint it was during the 2024 shortages: the new Aurora, Colorado production campus — roughly 780,000 square feet per trade press reports — began commercial production in July 2026, supplementing plants in Kentucky and North Carolina.

The strength expansion also lands as the category's pricing pressure grows. New York's 75% wholesale tax on pouches took effect September 1, and states watching that rollout will tax whatever sits on the shelf — which is now a wider shelf than it was a week ago.
