ZYN's dissolvable Melts just expanded to a second country — right before the UK's age-of-sale law

ZYN Melts, the fully dissolvable nicotine tablet, is now live in Switzerland as well as the UK — Cool Mint and Peppermint at 1 mg and 2 mg, 20 tablets per can at £6.50 / CHF 3.00 for a two-can set. With ASH Wales flagging the format and the UK's 18+ age-of-sale rule for all nicotine products arriving 29 October, the timing is not subtle.

ZYN's Swiss shop now sells the format alongside the UK listing: a two-can Discovery Set with Peppermint 1 mg and Cool Mint 2 mg for CHF 3.00, twenty tablets per can. In the UK, the same flavours and strengths sell at £6.50 per can.

The format itself is exactly what the name suggests: a small tablet placed between the upper lip and gum that dissolves completely — the under-the-lip ritual of a pouch with nothing to remove and discard afterwards. ZYN's own UK page confirms the details, and trade press (2FIRSTS, Tobacco Insider, Nicotine Insider) has now covered the rollout as a distinct product category rather than a pouch variant.

What's new since launch

Three developments have stacked up since ZYN's UK pages went live:

  • Switzerland is live. ZYN's ch/en shop lists a Melts Discovery Set — the format's first confirmed second market.
  • Health bodies are watching. Action on Smoking and Health (ASH Wales) published a product watch on dissolvable "melts" at the end of September — the kind of attention that usually precedes a format being pulled into regulation debates of its own.
  • The UK compliance floor is about to rise. From 29 October 2026 it becomes an offence to sell any vaping or nicotine product to anyone under 18 across the UK. GOV.UK guidance confirms the rules cover "all vaping and nicotine products" — dissolvable tablets included. PMI is scaling a brand-new low-dose format into a market that will start carding for it three weeks from now.

Why it matters

ZYN is the dominant nicotine pouch brand in the US, and Melts is the first time the brand has sold something that is not a pouch. The 1–2 mg strengths read as an entry-level format for smokers and new users rather than a pitch at existing heavy pouch users — a way to catch first-time nicotine consumers at the bottom of the strength ladder instead of losing them at the door.

The two-market pattern matters too. UK first, Switzerland second — both markets where ZYN already has retail infrastructure through Swedish Match's European operation, and neither requires the FDA process a US launch would. If the format sticks, the US question — whether Melts appear on ZYN's US site or in US retail — is the one to watch, because PMI's US arm has said nothing so far.

What's next

Whether Melts reach higher strengths, whether fruit flavours follow the mint-only start, and whether the format lands in the US. The UK's 29 October age-of-sale change is the near-term test: a brand-new low-dose format hitting shelves weeks before retailers must ID-check for every nicotine product, pouch or not.
