A broad alliance of German medical associations, led by the Bundesärztekammer, has formally appealed to the government to keep the ban on nicotine pouch sales — direct pushback against industry calls to legalize and tax pouches for over €200 million a year.

Germany forbids the sale of tobacco-free nicotine pouches, yet around 1.5 million people use them regularly. The Bundestag's own research service now estimates the grey market is costing the state up to €368 million a year in lost tax — and the country is split on whether to legalize, regulate and tax, or keep the ban.
