ZYN just launched a pouch with no pouch in it
ZYN Melts are fully dissolvable nicotine tablets — same spot under the lip, nothing to throw away. The first products on ZYN's UK and Swiss sites are 1 and 2 mg, in two flavors, at £6.50 a can.
ZYN is a nicotine pouch brand the way Kleenex is a tissue — the name has practically become the category. So it says something that the newest products on ZYN's own UK store are not pouches at all.
What happened
ZYN Melts are fully dissolvable nicotine tablets now listed on ZYN's UK and Swiss sites. You put one between your upper lip and gum, same spot as a pouch, and it dissolves until there's nothing left to take out. No pouch, no disposal, no can to worry about after the fact. ZYN's Swiss listing says a tablet takes roughly seven to eight minutes to dissolve — much shorter than the usual pouch session.
The opening lineup is small and deliberately low-dose:
- Two flavors: Cool Mint and Peppermint
- Two strengths: 1 mg and 2 mg per tablet
- 20 tablets per can, priced at £6.50 in the UK
For scale: ZYN's UK pouch range goes up to 16.5 mg per pouch. Melts sit at the very bottom of that range, which suggests they're aimed at short, discreet, low-dose use rather than replacing anyone's current pouch habit. ZYN is explicit that Melts are not a cessation aid — they're sold as adult nicotine products alongside the pouch range.
The launch didn't come out of nowhere. Swedish Match North Europe AB filed a UK trademark for ZYN MELTS in February 2026, covering everything from nicotine tablets to pouches and gum. Six months later, the product is on shelves.
Why it matters
Two things make this bigger than a four-SKU product drop.
First, this is the clearest sign yet that PMI sees ZYN as an oral nicotine platform, not just a pouch brand. The company already stretched the pouch lineup this year — new 1.5 mg and 8 mg dry strengths in the US, cans going from 15 to 20 pouches, a higher-moisture ULTRA line, and a Aurora, Colorado factory with capex expectations now at $1.2 billion. Smoke-free products were about 42% of PMI's global net revenue in Q2 2026. Adding a pouchless format under the ZYN name is the logical next move, and it borrows years of brand recognition for free.
Second, dissolvable oral nicotine has failed before. R.J. Reynolds test-marketed Camel Orbs, Strips and Sticks starting in 2009 and pulled them by 2013, according to a Tobacco Control account. The difference this time: the under-the-lip habit is already normalized for millions of pouch users. PMI isn't teaching a new behavior, just removing one small piece of it.
There's no announced US launch for Melts. In America, dissolvables are their own regulated tobacco-product category at the FDA, so a US version would need its own pathway rather than a simple line extension.
If Melts catch on, expect VELO and the rest of the category to answer — the pouch race has been fought over moisture, strength and flavors so far, and this changes something more basic: whether there's a pouch at all.
