The daily pulse of the nicotine pouch market

VELO adds Mexico, Spain and Sweden editions to its travel-retail pouch collection

BAT Global Travel Retail has added three summer editions to the VELO Traveller’s Collection — a nicotine pouch line sold exclusively in airports and duty-free. The Mexico and Spain editions feature Tropical Ice; Sweden gets Peppermint Storm. The expansion follows Japan, UAE, UK and Qatar editions launched earlier this year.

BAT is turning travel retail into a branding laboratory for VELO. The company's Global Travel Retail division launched three new summer editions of its VELO Traveller's Collection on 25 August 2026, adding Mexico, Spain and Sweden to a destination-inspired pouch line sold exclusively in airports and duty-free shops.

The Mexico and Spain editions both feature Tropical Ice, while the Sweden edition comes in Peppermint Storm. Each has destination-themed packaging — Mexico draws on dahlia floral motifs, Spain on bold colours and Spanish traditions, Sweden on midsummer celebrations with flowers and dance.

The summer batch follows the first wave of Traveller's Collection editions launched earlier this year: Japan, the UAE, the UK and Qatar. All are travel-retail exclusives — they are not sold in regular stores or online.

Why travel retail matters for pouches

Travel retail is a small but strategically important channel for nicotine pouches. It reaches adult consumers in a captive, premium-minded environment where they are more likely to try new products and formats. BAT's own data underscores why it is investing here: in its 2026 Half-Year Report, the company reported nicotine pouch revenue growth of 65.9% at constant rates and a 39.2% volume share across its top markets, including global travel retail.

We covered those H1 results in detail: BAT Half-Year Report: VELO Is Driving the Modern Oral Push.

The Traveller's Collection extends a pattern of VELO brand-building outside traditional retail. Earlier this summer, BAT launched a VELO Tomorrowland limited edition tied to the electronic music festival — another lifestyle partnership designed to associate the pouch brand with experiences rather than just convenience-store shelves: VELO's Tomorrowland deal puts pouches inside a music festival.

What is actually new

The flavours themselves — Tropical Ice and Peppermint Storm — are not new VELO products. What is new is the packaging concept and retail channel: collectible, destination-themed tins designed to turn a transit-area purchase into a souvenir.

Andy Hrstic, Cluster General Manager for Global Travel Retail and China at BAT, framed the strategy as design-led storytelling: "The VELO Traveller's Collection was created to celebrate the distinctive character of global travel retail — a channel shaped by movement, discovery and the individuality of each destination."

The collection is available at select travel-retail locations globally. BAT has not disclosed which specific airports or retailers carry the summer editions.

The bigger picture

For BAT, VELO is the centrepiece of its smokeless strategy. The company's Smokeless Products segment reached 19.8% of group revenue in H1 2026, and BAT says VELO holds category leadership in nicotine pouches across its top markets. Travel retail is one of the channels where that leadership is most visible — duty-free shops were among the first places many international consumers encountered VELO.

The Traveller's Collection is a branding exercise, not a product innovation. But it signals where BAT sees the pouch category heading: beyond the gas station and into premium, experience-driven retail environments where packaging and storytelling matter as much as the nicotine inside.
